The resource pack is now applied, you may load your world and see the difference.
In a few seconds the resourcepack will appear in Minecraft. Instead, download a program called Unstitcher, which is designed to automate the process. 
While you can unstitch manually, this can be very time-consuming.
You do not have to have Minecraft closed to place the resource pack in the opened folder. Minecraft 1.5 texture packs are 'stitched' together before they can be used, and this process will need to be undone before the pack can be converted. macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/resourcepacks (This folder may be hidden). Click Open Resource Pack Folder button this will open the folder where Minecraft stores all texture packs. If you like the vanilla texture in its lower resolution, Faithful 11.7. If you are in the main menu, skip this step. The unique feature of this texture pack is that it brings the standard Texture (vanilla) of Minecraft to a higher resolution. If you are in a Minecraft world, press 'escape'. 
However, as of snapshot 12w23a, as long as pack.mcmeta exists, it will be recognized as a resource pack.

If you create your own textures, you can ZIP them if you feel it is necessary. Minecraft texture packs are what you're going to need if you want to change how Minecraft typically looks. They will not change your actual gameplay.

Majority of resource packs are in ZIP file format, but as long as it has the necessary files (a 'pack.mcmeta' file, and an 'assets' folder), Minecraft will recognize a folder as a resource pack. The Minecraft resource packs allow you to customize textures, music, sounds, language files, end credits, splashes, and fonts for the game. Download a resource pack from the site of your choice.
